Melinda Pettigrew to Receive 2018 Inspiring Yale Award

April 09, 2018

The Yale Graduate & Professional Student Senate has named Professor Melinda Pettigrew, Ph.D., recipient of the 2018 Inspiring Yale Award for the Yale School of Public Health.

Pettigrew is to be honored for being an inspiration to the Yale University student body in and out of the classroom at the 4th annual Inspiring Yale event on April 11 at The Yale School of Management, Zhang Auditorium. She will share the stage with this year’s guest speaker and honoree Dr. Francis S. Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health.

“This award is particularly meaningful to me because it is from the students. That is why, when all is said and done, I am here at Yale,” said Pettigrew.

Pettigrew is a professor of epidemiology in the Department of Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases and the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the School of Public Health. She is a leader in public health education and is widely recognized for her research on antibiotic resistance and the epidemiology of respiratory tract and hospital-acquired infections. She also serves on the Steering Committee of the Antibiotic Resistance Leadership Group.
