Executive Master of Public Health (EMPH)

Public Health Education and Training designed for Working Professionals

Executive MPH: Online and On-Campus at Yale

An innovative hybrid program designed specifically for working professionals, Yale’s Executive Master of Public Health offers a rigorous public health education that balances the flexibility working students need with opportunities for hands-on training and authentic connection to peers, instructors, and the broader Yale community. Online courses combine asynchronous learning and live seminars scheduled in the evening to accommodate students’ work and family commitments. Three on-campus intensives provide focused training in leadership and strategic management, as well as opportunities to build relationships in-person with peers, Yale faculty, and expert practitioners. Throughout, the program’s cohort structure enhances student engagement, learning, and professional development, as students progress through required courses together, cultivating meaningful personal and professional relationships.

Students in the EMPH program can expect to gain a broad foundation in public health, extensive training in leadership and management, and access to advanced coursework in specialized fields and methods, culminating in an integrative experience in which second-year students apply what they have learned to a real-world public health problem. Students who choose the Yale EMPH can also expect to become part of a community: through their cohort, the broader Yale School of Public Health, and eventually as Yale alumni. Our faculty, instructors, and expert public health practitioners look forward to welcoming you soon.

This two-year, part-time program is open to students with:

  • A bachelor’s degree and at least four years of relevant work experience (need not be in the health field), OR
  • A master’s degree and at least two years of relevant work experience (need not be in the health field), OR
  • A doctoral (or international equivalent) degree in a field related to public health (e.g., physicians, dentists, podiatrists, pharmacists, veterinarians, attorneys, and those with a doctorate in the biological, behavioral, or social sciences)

As the EMPH curriculum already incorporates course material tailored to working professionals, EMPH students are free to pursue their degree as a public health generalist or complete one of the optional tracks:

  • Applied Analytic Methods and Epidemiology
  • Health Informatics
  • Environmental Health Sciences

*This program is open to students who will be residing in the United States, Canada, or Mexico while participating in the program.*
