The Yale School of Public Health is excited to present “Leaders in Public Health,” a distinguished speaker series showcasing accomplished individuals, pioneers, and thought leaders in the field of public health. This series encompasses a range of speaker events throughout the academic year, where we invite guests to join us in exploring vital topics about scientific rigor, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
We are proud to foster meaningful conversations that transcend our classrooms and laboratories, connecting with a global audience. Our goal is to effect positive change, not just within our local community of New Haven, Connecticut, but also on a national and international scale.

Leaders in Public Health: Dr. Stephen Morrison
Dr. Morrison currently leads the CSIS Bipartisan Alliance for Global Health Security, which shapes discourse in Congress and the administration on pandemic preparedness, HIV/AIDS, immunization, climate and health, engagement with China, and provision of health amid wars. Morrison writes extensively, and speaks and appears widely in the media on U.S. policy. He leads global health security fora at the annual Munich Security Conference, has generated over 20 one-hour episodes of the broadcast program, ‘Gaza: The Human Toll,’ and hosts the weekly podcast series The CommonHealth.

Leaders in Public Health: Dr. Jerome Adams
Dr. Jerome Adams was appointed as a Presidential Fellow and the first Executive Director of HealthEquity Initiatives on October 1, 2021 and is now the Purdue University Center for Community HealthEnhancement and Learning (HEAL). He is also a Distinguished Professor of Practice in the departments of Pharmacy Practice and Public Health.

Dr. Abdul Shaikh is Global Leader for Population Health for Amazon Web Services (AWS). He is responsible for developing cloud native solutions and partner strategies in digital health, remote patient monitoring, machine learning and generative AI for clinical and public health. Dr. Shaikh brings more than 20 years of experience helping healthcare providers, payors, researchers, governments and nonprofits work backwards from their goals to harness data for more equitable, efficient, and person-centered care.

Leaders in Public Health: Dr. Dena Bravata
Dr. Dena Bravata is a healthcare entrepreneur and executive. Dr. Bravata is the co-founder of Lyra Health where she also served as the Chief Medical Officer from 2015 to 2016. She was the founding Chief Medical Officer and Head of Products at Castlight Health from 2008 through 2014 and again from 2019 to 2022 (formerly NYSE:CSLT). Dr. Bravata was a practicing internist for 16 years in her own private practice and an attending physician at Stanford University and the Palo Alto VA.

José Bauermeister is the Founding Faculty Director of the Eidos LGBTQ+ Health Initiative at the University of Pennsylvania, and Albert M. Greenfield University Professor of Human Relations. José received his bachelor's degree from the University of Puerto Rico, and his graduate degrees in public health from the University of Michigan. Prior to joining the University of Pennsylvania, José was faculty in the University of Michigan’s School of Public Health where he was the founding director of the Center for Sexuality and Health Disparities.
