Biography

Marney A. White, PhD, MS, is a clinical psychologist and Professor of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the Yale School of Public Health, with a secondary appointment in the Yale School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry. Her program of research bridges behavioral medicine and mental health, with long-standing expertise in eating disorders, weight and body image concerns, addictive behaviors, depression, and anxiety, and how these conditions intersect with physical health.

Professor White’s newer work centers on psychodermatology and the comorbidity between severe dermatologic illness and mental disorders. She studies the psychosocial consequences of living with autoimmune blistering diseases (AIBDs) and other severe skin conditions, including the impacts on quality of life, functioning, and mental health, and she is developing and evaluating evidence-based supports to improve well-being and clinical outcomes for individuals affected by these diseases.

At Yale, she has taught psychotherapy, behavior change, health communication, psychometrics, epidemiology, and biostatistics, including in the Yale National Clinician Scholars Program.

Her "Self Care" course (Health Behavior Change: From Evidence to Action) is publicly available through Coursera.
