Site and Background:
UINCD is a Uganda-based research partnership between faculty at Makerere University College of Health Sciences (Uganda) and Yale School of Medicine (US), Mulago National Referral Hospital (Uganda) leadership, and the Uganda Ministry of Health Programme for Control and Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases. UINCD has received critical organizational, leadership, and financial support from the Yale Global Health Leadership Institute. UINCD was formed in 2013 following two years of multi-stakeholder engagement and was officially registered as a Ugandan non-governmental organization in 2014. The mission of UINCD is "To build capacity in the realms of prevention, care, training, and research to enable the provision of effective and integrated care along the NCD management spectrum."
Current projects include:
- Exploring knowledge and attitudes toward NCDs among Village Health Teams in Eastern Uganda
- Development of a novel tool for measuring, mapping, and monitoring disparities in access to essential medicines
- Prescribing and dispensing practices for medicines used to treat NCDs in public and private health facilities in Uganda
- Integrated NCD training for healthcare workers at Mulago National Referral Hospital
- Understanding the NCD content in Ugandan nursing school curricula
