Global Health/Tropical Diseases

Work in the Department of Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases reflects our School’s commitment to improving health around the world. Our faculty apply their expertise in pathogen genomics, modeling of infectious diseases, and field epidemiology to tackle some of the most challenging global health issues, including respiratory tract infections, enteric infections, malaria, trypanosomiasis, leptospirosis, arboviruses, tuberculosis, and HIV. We collaborate with local and international partners to enhance surveillance systems, inform evidence-based interventions, and optimize resource allocation. This unique combination of expertise in our Department has been applied to strengthen responses to global crises and inform new approaches to address persistent global health challenges.

EMD researchers specialize in many other tropical diseases, including vector-transmitted diseases such as malaria, zika, leptospirosis, leishmaniasis, human African trypanosomiasis.
