YSPH Statement on Supreme Court Decisions Regarding Admissions in Higher Education

June 29, 2023

To the YSPH Community:

I am writing to follow up on the recent Supreme Court decisions restricting the consideration of race in the admission process. As President Salovey noted in his email to the community, the Yale School of Public Health (YSPH) will work in partnership with the rest of the University to implement any new legal interpretation that may be required related to this decision. I assure all members of the community that we will continue to consider each YSPH applicant in a holistic manner.

We are a school that is deeply committed to our mission, vision, and values. Our vision is that we are diverse, inclusive, and anti-racist in our people, policies and practice. Moreover, we are committed to training a public health workforce that is equipped to address the needs of the diverse communities we serve. This commitment will not change.

As leaders in public health education, we will continue to cultivate a respectful and accessible environment that embraces diversity of thought, being, and experience in a manner that advances public health as we foster the next generation of public health leaders.

Thank you,
