Yale Department of Surgery Ranked Among Nation’s Best by U.S. News & World Report

The Department of Surgery was recognized among the best hospitals for adult and pediatric surgical care by the 2023-2024 U.S. News & World Report (USNWR) rankings.

Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) was listed among the best hospitals nationwide in Pulmonology and Lung Surgery (#25), and Otolaryngology (#38). Other top specialties include Gastroenterology and GI Surgery (#42), Surgical Oncology (#50), Pediatric Cardiology and Heart Surgery (#50), and Cancer (#50).

The department saw growth in several categories this year including Pulmonology and Lung Surgery and Cardiology & Heart Surgery. Dr. Daniel J. Boffa, Chief of Thoracic Surgery, introduced new services including Robot-Assisted Minimally Invasive Esophagectomy. The Division of Thoracic Surgery currently offers specialists in eight locations. Dr. Gabriele Di Luozzo joined the Division of Cardiac Surgery last year as head of the cardiac program at Bridgeport Hospital. Dr. Peter J. Gruber, Chief of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, also expanded Yale New Haven Children Hospital’s Pediatric Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Program and E-CPR Program.
