BIO

Emily Hammad Mrig, PhD, MA, is a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Health Policy & Management at the Yale University School of Public Health. Her research draws from interdisciplinary frameworks and methods, including the social sciences, health services research, and public health, and examines pressing issues related to health inequities and access to health care services. She is particularly interested in the relationship among socioeconomic status, health insurance, and access to new biomedical interventions, which is currently an underexplored area of research. Additional areas of research include end-of-life care, palliative and hospice medicine, and intergenerational effects of health disparities. Her work has been published in Social Science & Medicine, Medical Anthropology Quarterly, Journal of Applied Social Science and other journals. She has recently been awarded several honors for her work, including University of Colorado Outstanding PhD Award and the AAUW American Dissertation Fellowship Prize. She is also a mentor to high school and undergraduate students and an amateur filmmaker.
