Medical products—pharmaceuticals, biologics, vaccines and devices—are essential tools in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease. As their role in health and health care grows, so too does the complexity of their development, regulation, promotion and pricing, among other topics. Department faculty conduct research examining the work of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the production of evidence and its use in regulation and policy, the design of clinical trials and the dissemination of trial data, the role of scientific expert advice at FDA and CDC, the development of recommended vaccination schedules, the use of post-market surveillance programs, and analogous activities in Europe and other international settings. Faculty are also affiliated with the Yale Collaboration for Research Integrity and Transparency (CRIT) and the Yale-Mayo Clinic Center of Excellence in Regulatory Science and Innovation (CERSI).
