Educate Generations of Public Health Leaders

We will ensure our students excel in understanding, conducting, and using rigorous science to advance population-level health.

Initiatives

Initiative #2a: Support students and graduates in being leaders in the science and practice of public health

  • Provide the highest quality training in the science and art of public health​
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive leadership curriculum for students to prepare them to be public health leaders​
  • Expand career services to ensure that students can access the most impactful post-graduate employment/educational opportunities​
  • Reduce educational-loan debt, so that starting pay does not determine their career choice​
  • Foster an alumni network which provides lifelong connectivity and support for graduates, as well as meaningful connections with current students – creating a web of YSPH public health influence across the globe​

Initiative #2b: Implement dynamic educational programs that address topical issues

  • Expand training in the science and practice of real-world public health, joining coursework with a diversity of experiential learning opportunities​
  • Ensure availability of formal and informal coursework on emerging, pressing, and persistent public health challenges (in coordination with our four areas of research focus (see also: 4b)
  • Develop new structures to allow timely knowledge synthesis, evaluation, and debate about emerging health issues​
  • Expand the development and dissemination of YSPH public health practice case studies​

Initiative #2c: Develop innovative educational opportunities for learners from different backgrounds, lived experiences, and career stages, worldwide

  • Broaden access to public health training by expanding our executive education programming and developing micro-credential programs
  • Promote relationship-building among learners with different life experiences and perspectives, to foster public health collaborations across personal and political divides
  • Ensure that certificate programs meet the needs of current and future generations of public health professionals​

Initiative #2d: Create educational partnerships with the local community to support public health leadership

  • Expand educational partnerships with New Haven community organizations on specific areas of focus
  • Enhance local pipeline of public health students and leadership
  • Continue support of New England public health workforce training​
