Public Health in Action
For over 100 years, our faculty and students have applied their research in real world settings to advance efforts in disease and injury prevention. We actively work with communities, both local and global, to improve the health of all through disease surveillance, program evaluation and outbreak investigation (NIH). YSPH fosters collaboration through a variety of centers, initiatives and partnerships that promote public health practice: the real world application of public health scholarship, knowledge, skills, as well as advocacy.
Office of Public Health Practice
The Office of Public Health Practice (OPHP) supports the mission of YSPH by fostering sustainable and equitable collaborations between students, faculty and community partners. OPHP serves as the nexus for practice-based learning and public health workforce education at YSPH. We provide opportunities to apply academic training and evidence based practices to real world settings. In order to fulfill this role we:
- Serve as the hub for community engagement opportunities
- Support practice-based learning (internships, practice courses, special projects) objectives and requirements
- Provide training opportunities for the public health workforce
- Assess the collective impact of practice-based learning initiatives
Community Impact
Through internships, practicum courses, and community service our YSPH students work with local, national, and global organizations to build capacity and help solve pressing public health issues. In partnership with organizations, practice experiences are crafted to be mutually beneficial and community-centric.
