EMD Research Day
The 9th Annual Research Day held by the Department of Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases (EMD) on May 1, 2023, was a true celebration of research success. Students, post-grad researchers, and faculty came together to showcase the latest research conducted by MPH, MS, and PhD students and Post-doctoral scientists at the Yale School of Public Health. The interdisciplinary nature of public health was evident in the poster presentations, lightning talks, and longer oral presentations, all of which highlighted the depth and breadth of student research in EMD while strengthening our academic community.
I cannot emphasize enough how impressed I was with the quality of the students’ thesis work. And the presentation of their work was equally impressive. These students have bright futures!
Student Research Day highlights everything that is special about EMD, including students who are passionate about public health, faculty who tirelessly dedicate themselves to research and training, and support staff who make events like this possible. Ours is an inspiring, supportive academic community that always shows up to celebrate our shared goals and vision for a better, healthier world.
More about the day
The day started with presentations from five MPH students who conducted research on significant global health issues such as diseases transmitted by mosquitoes, Covid19, cholera, hookworm, and mpox. This was followed by a series of lightning talks and poster presentations covering various topics like the awareness of PrEP in South Africa and the latest advancements in diagnostics. These showcased the extensive range and depth of student research in EMD and the crucial role played by EMD faculty in guiding and motivating the next generation of infectious disease epidemiologists.
An exceptional aspect of the MPH program at Yale School of Public Health is the chance to participate in closely mentored independent research in various fields such as laboratory, community-based, and quantitative science. This is made possible by a remarkably diverse group of faculty who are dedicated to educating students, conducting research, and serving the global community.
- "As an oral presenter Research Day was an amazing opportunity to give a talk on my research and gain insightful feedback from experts in the field. I look forward to using the practice gained from this experience at future academic conferences. I also enjoyed hearing what all of my colleagues have been working on!"
