Create Pathways for Translating Outstanding Science into Local and Global Health Impact

We will both conduct world-class research and develop entrepreneurial frameworks that use our scholarship to tangibly improve societal well-being.

Initiatives

Initiative #1a: Motivate world-class science that advances human health, today and tomorrow

  • Optimize incentive structures and systems to reward rigor, creativity, and impact​
  • Develop and support novel funding mechanisms for topical research (including emergent research on health crises and core research areas)​
  • Revise our structure and support for research centers​ [with a commitment to working on the 4 scholarly areas of focus, in addition to existing strengths]

Initiative #1b: Build organizational capacity through a “Future of Health” innovation hub, to facilitate the translation of science into systems change

  • Define new approaches to and metrics for public health entrepreneurialism,​ in collaboration with an advisory board of health leaders from commercial, non-profit, and policy sectors
  • Develop coursework and coaching that builds students' and faculty members' skills and knowledge regarding health entrepreneurialism ​
  • Establish corporate and philanthropic partnerships to ensure sustainability​ of health solutions

Initiative #1c: Grow our influence on policy and the public sector, locally, nationally, and globally

  • Develop a YSPH-in-DC presence​
  • Expand trainings and coursework in advocacy and policy change​
  • Expand the number of dedicated policy/advocacy partnerships for students and faculty​
  • Serve as a validator and convener for novel public sector health capabilities​
  • Deepen existing policy relationships in Connecticut​

  • Engage community members in structured, ongoing ways to ensure that research is useful, usable, reciprocal, and impactful
