Biography

Olivia A. Mooney is a program manager for Data Responsibility, a project at the Yale School of Public Health (YSPH)’s Khoshnood-Humanitarian Research Lab (HRL) in partnership with the UN’s International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Research Coordinator for the Yale MacMillan Center’s Mass Atrocities in the Digital Era (MADE). Her work ranges from research on data responsibility in INGO settings to misinformation, disinformation, and hate speech in humanitarian response operations to considering the role of social media in mass atrocity events. She has previously conducted legislative research for the New Haven Mayor’s office, as served as a research assistant for Nathaniel Raymond (Yale Jackson Institute and YSPH)’s forthcoming book, and interned with New Haven Legal Assistance Association, Inc.’s Immigration Program. A recent graduate of Yale University (B.A., Ethics, Politics, and Economics), her thesis, “‘Blacklisted’: Analyzing Big Data’s Amplifying Effect on Racial Disparities through Evictions and Public Records,” analyzed how the data broker economy enhances structural barriers and systemic racism in housing.
