I chose this program because of its enriching and diverse coursework, the focus on public health innovation, the ability to interact with my cohort virtually and in-person through our intensive on-site trainings, and the chance to customize my experience based on my own passions, such as nutrition and food. Also, New Haven pizza is the best!
EMPH student uses education to drive equitable change
EMPH Student Spotlight, Priya Khimani, MPH '26
Why did you choose the Yale School of Public Health’s Executive MPH program?
What were you doing before enrolling at YSPH?
Before enrolling, I worked in a multitude of roles across digital product strategy and consulting. I had always been drawn to public health concepts and decided it was time to take a leap. Since beginning the program, I have gained the ability to apply core public health principles and practices to my day-to-day job working on digital health partnerships for a health care company. This integration is one of my favorite parts of the program and makes learning feel tangible.
How has studying in a cohort impacted your EMPH experience?
I absolutely LOVE my EMPH cohort. From the first classes, I was blown away by the diversity and breadth of experience of my peers. We work extremely well as a cohort, and a lot of my learning comes directly from our interactions. The program promotes collaboration through intensives, discussions, and class projects which gives me the opportunity to work with different individuals each time. It has been fantastic to have others who truly understand the balancing act that is graduate school, and we are there to consistently support one another.
What are your favorite aspects of the EMPH program?
I am in close proximity to YSPH, which allows me to participate in on-site activities and customize the experience to my interests and career goals. I have had the ability to take an on-site class with full-time students, serve as the dietary advisor for the Food Pharmacy at HAVEN Free Clinic, and participate in other activities around campus. These experiences have broadened my connections to the Yale community. The flexibility of the program truly allows a “choose your own adventure.”
How do you hope to use your EMPH education to shape the future of public health?
I hope to use my EMPH education to drive equitable change, empowered and enabled by technology and innovation. This means identifying and implementing strategies and interventions that are focused on reducing population gaps and promoting health outcomes using digital solutions. Technology should not be a replacement but rather a tool to further enhance the programs we hope to deliver. As I am also extremely passionate about food as medicine and nutrition, I hope to devote personal and professional time to pursuing projects in that space.
