YSPH Dean’s Lecture: “Getting on the Balcony” by Dr. Elizabeth Bradley
Please join us for the YSPH Dean’s Lecture by Elizabeth Bradley, PhD ’96, the 2023 Wilbur Cross Medal recipient.
Bradley, the president of Vassar College, will reflect on her career and the wisdom she has gained, especially during moments of transition, in her lecture titled, “Getting on the Balcony.”
Bradley is being recognized with the Wilbur Cross Medal for her distinguished achievements in scholarship, teaching, academic administration, and public service. She is a visionary scholar of public health known for her unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of local and global communities. She is an unabashed supporter of liberal arts education globally and a strong advocate for inclusive leadership.
Her career attests to the power of embracing change and continuous learning. At Yale School of Public Health, Bradley led the Health Management Program and was the Brady-Johnson Professor of Grand Strategy and the founder and faculty director of the Yale Global Health Leadership Institute. She spearheaded education and research programs in China, the United Kingdom, Ethiopia, Ghana, Liberia, Rwanda, and South Africa, where her work contributed to significant changes to advance the overall health and well-being of populations.
In the U.S., she contributed to the improvement of quality of care within hospital settings. She is co-author of “The American Healthcare Paradox: Why Spending More Is Getting Us Less,” a book that started an international dialogue about the impact of social determinants of health.
In 2017, she became president of Vassar College.
