Salmaan Inayat-Hussain, PhD, FASc

Dr Salmaan Inayat-Hussain is the Chief of Staff at Ipieca, seconded from the Corporate Sustainability Division, PETRONAS. Before joining Ipieca, Salmaan was the Senior General Manager in Group Health, Safety and Environment at PETRONAS, where he played a pivotal role in developing and implementing environmental, social and product stewardship initiative, including those focused on environmental health and toxicology. He was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at Yale School of Public Health.

Salmaan has held senior positions such as the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, The National University of Malaysia, Professor of Toxicology and Director at Melaka Biotechnology Corporation. He earned his PhD in Biochemical Toxicology from the MRC Toxicology Unit, University of Leicester, England in 1997. He is an American Board Certified Toxicologist, European Registered Toxicologist and Fellow of the Academy of Sciences, Malaysia. With over 30 years of research and teaching experience, Salmaan has worked at various organizations including University of Colorado, Karolinska Institutet, University of Osaka, King’s College London and Kyoto University.

He serves on several editorial board of several journals including Human and Experimental Toxicology, Journal of Toxicological Sciences, Toxicology Methods & Mechanisms and Genes & Environment. Additionally, Salmaan has been involved in numerous international committees, such as the Joint FAO/WHO Meeting on Pesticide Residues and has held roles including Chairman of the Ipieca Globally Harmonised System for Classification and Labeling Task Force and Director of the International Union of Toxicology (IUTOX) Executive Committee. He has also advised the Department of Occupational Safety and Health, Malaysia, and participated in working groups organized by international organizations like WHO, UNEP, and APEC Chemical Dialogue.
