A practicing veterinarian for five years with a specialty in small animals Orlaith Carr is interested in melding a public health approach with animal health. After years of scientific training, the population perspective of her current studies is opening her horizons. “There is a lot of room for the public health perspective that incorporates animal health,” says Orlaith. In addition to zoonotic disease research, there are emerging opportunities in climate change and animal health, sustainability, food safety, occupational safety for animal workers, and health policy driving all these areas.
