Student Spotlight - Roxanne Winston

1 Minute Read

Roxanne Winston (left) with her internship supervisor at San Francisco Pride recruiting black trans and MSM folks for HIV Testing. Roxanne worked with the TransLife Program at the SF AIDS Foundation and hosted a transmasculine health panel. She also researched the health effects of stigma on receptiveness and adherence to care among transmasculine and gender non-conforming communities. The experience, says Roxanne, was amazing. “I worked with fabulous coworkers, gained an in-depth understanding of health issues impacting highly marginalized populations.” The qualitative data gathered from that research will serve as the basis for her MPH thesis in the Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences where she is a second year student.

When she graduates from the Yale School of Public Health, Roxanne plans to continue doing research around improving health services for historically marginalized populations, and, ultimately, would like to work on queer family planning while also teaching part time to translate her knowledge through practice into educating incoming health professionals.
