YSPH EMD Seminar Series: “Innovative Interventions in Prevention and Control of Seasonal Malaria in Africa”

SMC is recommended by WHO in 2012 and now deployed in the all Sahelian countries. Despite this additional strategy in these countries, Malaria burden continue to be higher compared to other endemic countries in the world. The addition of Azithromycin to SMC does not provide additional benefit. But the combination of RTS,S vaccine and SMC give a drastic reduction in malaria incidence and mortality. This intervention could be recommended for accelerating malaria elimination in countries where the malaria transmission is seasonal.
