CMIPS Seminar: "Implementation Barriers and Facilitators of an Age-of-Sale Law for Ultra-Processed foods in Oaxaca, Mexico"
In 2020, the Mexican state of Oaxaca enacted a law to ban
the sale of unhealthy foods and beverages to minors. The policy included both stores and
schools initially but was revised in 2024 to eliminate the prohibition in stores. This seminar will
report on a multi-study project which aimed to understand the law’s adoption, acceptability,
appropriateness, feasibility and implementation barriers and facilitators over a period of two
years. The project included a mystery client study, surveys of implementation actors and semi
structured interviews. It is a collaboration between the Center for Methods in Implementation
and Prevention Science and the National Institute of Public Health in Mexico.
