Postdoctoral Associate in Health Policy Simulation Modeling
Dr. Jamie Tam is seeking a postdoctoral associate to join her research team at the Tobacco Economics and Modeling of Policy Outcomes (TEMPO) Lab located in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Yale School of Public Health. Dr. Tam uses simulation modeling to evaluate tobacco control interventions among high-priority populations, such as people with mental health conditions, pregnant individuals, and socioeconomically disadvantaged groups.
The individual will contribute to the development of simulation models of substance use and addiction (including cigarette, e-cigarette, alcohol, and/or cannabis use) among high priority populations. Analyses will use models to evaluate the long-term disease, mortality, and economic outcomes associated with policy intervention. Under Dr. Tam’s supervision, the candidate will be responsible for cleaning and preparing data, running analyses and simulations, generating tables and figures, and drafting presentations and manuscripts. The candidate will be expected to scientifically contribute as a co-author to manuscripts for publication. Strong communication and project management skills are a plus.
The candidate will join a cross-disciplinary research team across multiple institutions and have opportunities to collaborate on additional grant-funded modeling projects with the Cancer Intervention and Surveillance Modeling Network (CISNET) Lung working group as well as the Center for the Assessment of Tobacco Regulations (CAsToR).
Applicants must have a doctoral degree from an accredited institution before the start of the appointment. Ideal candidates must be proficient in R and have some experience conducting survey data analysis and/or computer simulation. Applicants may come from a variety of fields and backgrounds, not limited to public health. Some desired areas of expertise include epidemiology, dynamic and complex systems, computer programming, and statistical analysis.
Hybrid work arrangement available based on candidate’s demonstrated ability to work independently.
Start date: Available immediately starting in Spring/Summer 2025
Length of appointment: 1 year, opportunities beyond the 1st year pending funding availability
Salary range: $70,000-75,000
