Requirements and Support
Requirements
Applicants to the Big Data Summer Institute in Biostatistics, a SIBS program funded by NHLBI, must:
- Be undergraduates at an accredited school or university
- Have an interest in scientific research
- Have some background knowledge of computing/programming and an introduction to the theory of probability, calculus and linear algebra; prerequisites are flexible
- Be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident
Support
2025 Support Details
Support packages for SIBS participants, funded by NHLBI, include:
- On-campus housing for the duration of the program
- $1,800 stipend
- Up to $500 in travel support
- $200 meal plan allowance
All participants will attend the same program and activities, regardless of funding source and level of support.
Interaction with Faculty and Graduate Students
Participants have the opportunity to learn from a diverse group of stellar faculty at the Yale School of Public Health through available lectures and interaction with research project leaders. Graduate student research assistants also provide guidance with the projects.
Distinct From Other Summer Programs
There are numerous other summer programs in STEM fields available for undergraduates. The Big Data Summer Immersion at Yale is quite unique. Our student will gain hands-on research experience in the intersection of big data and human health.
