AI Prompt-a-Thon

The Health Sciences IT team would like to cordially invite you to attend our first “AI Prompt-a-Thon” workshop open to all faculty, staff, and students. We have 50 open seats available for this onsite, in-person workshop and have customized it specifically for a YSPH audience.

What is the AI “Prompt-a-Thon”?

First developed by NYU Langone Health’s MCIT Department of Health Informatics, Institute for Innovations in Medical Education, and Institute for Excellence in Health Equity, a prompt-a-thon is a collaborative session where participants will explore generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), learn how to interact with generative AI through prompt engineering, and discover how generative AI could play a part in their personal or professional lives.

What happens in the workshop?

The prompt-a-thon is a fun 60-90-minute session!

The prompt-a-thon will be led by a facilitator, who will introduce generative AI, teaching the participants techniques to craft effective prompts, and provide sample prompts for participants to try. The workshop may be organized by individuals, groups or teams who will collaborate on crafting the best prompts for the most ideal output.

The session offers hands-on experience with generative AI, allowing participants to apply learned prompting techniques in real-time and share the results of their interactions with generative AI within groups. Please bring your own laptop (or iPad) and charger to the workshop.

Participants will leverage Clarity, which is Yale’s conversational generative AI chatbot similar to chatbots like ChatGPT. Clarity currently supports the ability to interact with the popular OpenAI model GPT-4o. Microsoft Copilot may also be included in the workshop depending on the timing.

There will be no PHI, high risk, or identifiable data or prompts used in this workshop. Example prompts will be based on topics relevant to YSPH faculty, staff, and students, such as:

  • Curriculum
  • Research
  • Outreach
  • Collaboration
  • Evaluation
  • Grant Writing
  • Policy Analysis
  • Data Analysis
  • Program Development
  • Advocacy

Who should attend?

The workshop is open to any faculty, staff, and students who wish to learn more about the 101 basics of GenAI prompt engineering with a chatbot.

What are the learning objectives and how will this impact my work?

By the end of the workshop, you will be able to:

  1. Understand the basics of an AI chatbot and how they work
  2. Develop your own prompts based on trial and error
  3. Apply this technology for your daily work

Participants will be encouraged to think creatively and critically about how prompt engineering can be applied for accomplishing routine tasks in their daily work for greater efficiencies.

What do I need to enroll?

It is recommended that participants enroll in the Workday Learning prerequisite as there is limited space for each prompt-a-thon. Once enrolled, please remember to bring your own laptop (or iPad) and charger to the workshop.

Will this be recorded? Will additional workshops be held if I cannot attend?

This will not be recorded and future sessions are TBD following the kickoff.
