YSPH EMD Seminar: Britt Skaathun - Leveraging Networks & Epidemiology: Creative Approaches for HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infection Control

Despite overall reductions in incidence globally, rates of HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STI) remain alarmingly high among marginalized populations and in resource-constrained settings, which points to the need for new ways to examine and address the factors underlying these inequities. My current research integrates exciting methodologies to tackle this issue and involves enhancing traditional epidemiologic data with additional data sources, such as social and molecular network data. This talk will accomplish the following: (a) provide a basic understanding of some of the social and molecular network analysis methods available for mitigating HIV and STIs, (b) provide examples of their application, and (c) discuss the ethical considerations of their use.
