Our Services

The YCAS team can aid researchers from pre-design advice to manuscript preparation and revision. We can assist with state-of-the-art data management practices, and study registration, and we will ensure that your research is conducted using sound analytical principles and practices. Our services include:

Data management

Our data managers follow best practices for data management, in compliance with University standards, while working collaboratively with data analysts, study coordinators and staff. Our team develops and maintains electronic database systems to meet the needs of the research team. We develop electronic case report forms (eCRFs), data quality procedures, data validation and reporting processes, and datasets for analysis. We also create and format data import files for submissions to national repositories.

ClinicalTrials.gov

Our team works collaboratively with investigators and study teams to meet regulatory requirements for disclosure of clinical trial information. We identify Yale studies required to be registered in ClinicalTrials.gov and we assist investigators to register and report the results of their studies.

Research design

We assist investigators during the early planning stages of their studies.

• Research design (investigator applying for a grant):
  We can assist investigators to develop testable hypotheses and select an appropriate study design. We can determine an adequate sample size for the study and provide guidance on appropriate analytical methods for data analysis.
• Research design (investigator not applying for a grant):
  We can assist investigators to develop testable hypotheses and select an appropriate study design. We can provide a statistical analysis plan, including a sample size estimate. All projects require at least one month’s notice prior to the application deadline to provide a written plan. Larger studies (e.g., program project grants, multicenter studies, data coordinating centers) may require more time.
  

Data analysis

If you have already collected data, we can provide guidance on appropriate analytical methods for analysis. Our statisticians can conduct the analyses as well and provide proper interpretation of the results. If you plan to send us data, please follow YCAS data formatting guidelines that we will send to you when you request our services.

Manuscript writing

For investigators for whom we have analyzed data, we can provide the statistical methods, a results write-up and tables and figures to include in a manuscript. We expect that the statistician’s contribution to the manuscript will be appropriately recognized. This usually involves authorship. See Authorship Guidelines for details.
