Dr. Hiroshi Sogawa Joins Transplant Division

We are delighted to announce that Hiroshi Sogawa, MD, FACS will join the Yale School of Medicine Department of Surgery’s Transplant Division as Surgical Director of the Liver Transplant Program at Yale New Haven Hospital, effective April 15, 2025.

Dr. Sogawa comes to Yale from New York Medical College and Westchester Medical Center, where he served as Professor of Surgery, Vice Chair of Education, Surgical Clerkship Director, and Associate Program Director of the General Surgery Residency Program. A highly accomplished abdominal transplant and hepatobiliary surgeon, he brings over a decade of expertise in liver, intestine, multi-visceral, kidney, and pancreas transplantation, with extensive experience in living donor surgery.

Prior to his time in New York, Dr. Sogawa was at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he played a key role in expanding one of the largest and most prestigious liver transplant programs in the country. Throughout his career, he has been instrumental in modernizing transplant programs, expanding transplant volumes, and advancing minimally invasive hepatobiliary surgery.

His leadership in education, research, and clinical innovation has been widely recognized, and he has been an active member of national and international transplant societies. We are excited to welcome Dr. Sogawa to Yale and look forward to the impact of his expertise on our service line, our trainees, and, most importantly, our patients.
