Abstract/SynopsisThe Yale Partnerships for Global Health consist of multi-directional research and training programs designed to build research capacity in diseases of major public health importance. The Ghana-Yale Partnership includes formal research and training collaborations with the University of Ghana, KNUST, the Ghana Health Service/Ministry of Health, and the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons. The USP-Yale Partnership is a collaborative program with the University of Sao Paulo Medical School in Riberao Preto, Brazil. The long term goal of the Yale Partnerships is to cultivate a global community of scientists with a global network and firm commitment to collaborative research. (Africa)

Abstract/SynopsisDr. Cappello is actively engaged in collaborative studies aimed at defining the role of parasitic diseases, including soil transmitted helminths and malaria, on childhood growth, nutritional status, and immune function. Field based studies focus on the epidemiology of infectious diseases and the effectiveness of currently available treatments. Lab based studies focus on pathogenesis, immunology, and drug/vaccine development. (Africa)
