Preparing Leadership

Within the Preparing Leadership for Success portfolio, we build capacity among individuals and teams to solve complex problems with measurable impact. We engage mid- and senior- career professionals in online learning, in-person retreats, executive coaching, and mentored projects. We also prepare Yale students and scholars for success after graduation. For example:

We collaborate with the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand to foster a sweeping positive shift in intensive care unit (ICU) organizational culture. The centerpiece of this collaboration is the Leading ICUs for Transformation (LIFT) program. LIFT is a nine-month certificate program that includes residential learning experiences, virtual coaching, and a transformation project through which delegate teams address a complex adaptive challenge to drive meaningful change.

We partner with the Foundation for Professional Development to deliver the Advanced Health Management Program (AHMP), providing health professionals with the management skills necessary to run efficient, effective health care facilities and to have them meet the needs of patients with HIV/AIDS. Program participants identify management challenges at their facilities and devise systematic solutions to address these problems, building competencies in the areas of financial, operations and project management, human resources, marketing, resource mobilization, and monitoring and evaluation. The year-long program reaches each of South Africa’s nine provinces and attracts professionals from Swaziland, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Strategic Leadership in Health and Social Care is our long-standing executive leadership program is delivered in partnership with the United Kingdom‘s National Health Service (NHS) and Health Education England. We prepare executives, commissioners, and others in leadership roles from the NHS, the social care sector, and the local government to navigate complex health and social care challenges within the UK. The 9-month program includes two modules, the first in the UK and the second on the Yale campus, and a mentored leadership project create a unique experience that equips delegates to transformational change. Since 2007, over 300 alumni have graduated from the program, many now serving in the highest offices across the NHS, the social care sector, and local governments.
