Biography

Dr. Bob Manteaw is the Africa-specific course director and lecturer for the Yale Climate Change and Health course. He is currently a Senior Research/Teaching Fellow at the Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Studies of the University of Ghana. His PhD in Sustainable Development Thinking and Practice was from the Washington State University, in Pullman, U.S.A. where Dr. Manteaw’s research focused on multi-sector learning and action partnerships for sustainable development. He moved back to Ghana from Alberta, Canada, where he worked as the Province of Alberta’s Climate Adaptation Policy and Planning Lead. He also worked as an adjunct professor at the Kings University in Edmonton, Alberta. Prior to working in Canada, Bob worked as an Assistant Professor at the Eastern Washington University in Cheney, U.S.A. where his teaching and research interests focused on Sustainable Development and the Social Dimensions of Global Environmental Change. Back in Ghana, and as an academic, Bob’s research and teaching interests continue to explore critical and ever-evolving climate, environment, and sustainability transitional issues where he is particularly interested in catalytic and transitional learning innovations for climate-resilient sustainable development. His most recent research works have focused on climate-informed decision making in data poor environments; climate and health impacts in marginalized communities; planetary health framing and education, and post-pandemic imaginations of the future of work in Africa. Dr. Bob Manteaw is also a Futures Studies and Foresight researcher and practitioner and runs a consultancy --Foresight Planners and Research Africa--through which he provides various services to governments, organizations, governments, and different development partners in Ghana and beyond. Dr. Manteaw’s professional experiences span sectors, cultures, contexts and countries and he is uniquely positioned with knowledge and high-impact leadership practice experiences from academia, government policy, private sector, and International Development. Bob is also an alumnus of the Yale Climate and Health Certificate program.
