Student Experience

In the Climate Change and Health Certificate you will have access to a suite of online tools that will help you stay connected to Yale and to your faculty and peers throughout the experience. Through Canvas, Yale’s official learning management system, and video conferencing tools, you will receive course materials, participate in a supportive online learning community, and engage in real-time discussion sessions with faculty and your peers. To ensure your success, you will have access to technical support 24/7.

Classes

You can attend class from wherever you are through Canvas. Class sessions are recorded lectures taught by Yale and partner institution faculty and will be accessible during the entire certificate experience so that you can review materials at your convenience.

Course Materials

The learning management system is the central hub for all coursework. Here, you will access weekly recorded lectures, slideshows, readings, quizzes, assignments, and links to live sessions.

Live Sessions

The required live video sessions will allow you to connect with course instructors, discussion leaders, and peers to review topics and ideas learned in coursework on a weekly basis. Weekly small group discussion sessions are capped at 15 participants to encourage collaboration and connection.

Technical Requirements

To participate in the Climate Change and Health Certificate, you will need consistent access to the internet and a computer, laptop, mobile device, or tablet capable of playing audio and video. To participate in live sessions, your device must be equipped with a camera and a microphone. This can be built-in, USB plug-in, or wireless Bluetooth. If using a computer, we recommended that it be 5 years old or newer when possible. If you enroll in the program, we will provide you with a list of technology recommendations before the program starts.

Weekly Time Commitment

Each week you can expect to spend about 5-7 hours working on the course. This weekly time commitment will be divided among the following activities:
  • Viewing lecture videos
  • Working on weekly assignments or quizzes
  • Reading 2 to 3 articles
  • Participating in required real-time small group discussion with faculty
