Research Experience and Training Coordination Core (RETCC)
The goal of the Research Experience and Training Coordination Core (RETCC) is to expand the population of professionals able to conduct and interpret research relating to human exposure to and the health effects of emerging drinking water contaminants.
Description
The RETCC plays a foundational role in the YSRC by ensuring the recruitment and training of pre- and post-doctoral researchers with technical competence in the center research areas.
To develop scientists, engineers, and biomedical researchers capable of addressing emerging research and health questions, the RETCC (in collaboration with other YSRC cores) will provide professional experiences and training in community engagement, risk communication, and research translation relating to drinking water contaminants.
Central activities of the RETCC will include:
- recruitment of a cadre of diverse, academically prepared doctoral students and post-doctoral researchers
- provision of interdisciplinary training through required cross-disciplinary coursework and focused training in community outreach, results dissemination, risk communication, and research translation
- design and implementation of a program for interdisciplinary research exchanges within and external to Yale; and...
- fostering the professional development of trainees through planned interactions with community partners, government agencies, and private industry
Relevance
The primary purpose for improving water quality is to protect human health. The RETCC will develop cross-trained scientists, engineers, and biomedical researchers with wide-ranging communication skills to successfully address emerging research and health questions relating to drinking water contaminants.
