Our WHRY Undergraduate Fellows include many students who are committed to pursuing a career as a physician. As they plan their next steps in applying to medical school, recent health policy changes throughout the country are affecting their decisions about where to apply for their training.
In an article for KevinMD.com titled “I want to be a doctor who can provide care for women: What states must I rule out for my medical education?”, 2022-2023 WHRY Undergraduate Fellow Nandini Erodula (’23) details her reasons for taking the health policy of individual states into consideration when applying to medical school.
This thought-provoking piece points out the implications of restrictive health policies in terms of what can be legally taught to medical students, and what this means for learning how to provide comprehensive medical care for women. As Ms. Erodula states, she wants to “join the next generation of health care providers who will work tirelessly … to ensure that every woman has access to safe, high-quality health care…”
