- 00:00Hi Marian, so I'd love to
- 00:02hear your perspective of the
- 00:04benefits of this TREC workshop.
- 00:06Mostly for population scientist
- 00:08studying energy bounce and cancer.
- 00:10This is a phenomenal workshop
- 00:12for all the population scientists
- 00:14because they get contact with clinicians
- 00:17and also with basic scientists,
- 00:19an I think that this can
- 00:22help inform their research,
- 00:23produce new collaborations for them and
- 00:26really help them along in their careers.
- 00:29Often the population scientists stay
- 00:31in their own corner of the building,
- 00:34or they may even be in a separate building,
- 00:37so having contact with clinicians
- 00:39and basic science.
- 00:41Artists helps to broaden their outlook
- 00:43on conducting their research, and thanks
- 00:45for your participation in the course.
- 00:47You're welcome.
- 00:48Thanks, Doctor Gently Gabel for
- 00:50participating in the TREC workshop.
- 00:52So as a clinician scientists,
- 00:53what do you think the benefits of this
- 00:57course are for other clinicians? So I
- 01:00think that for clinicians that are
- 01:02interested in this field many times they
- 01:04may feel like they're the only person at
- 01:07their institution with these interests,
- 01:09and I think it's so helpful for
- 01:11clinicians to be able to connect with
- 01:13the basic scientists with the nutrition
- 01:15and physical activity and behavior
- 01:17change experts to really understand
- 01:19how to build a multidisciplinary team
- 01:21and to understand also how a clinical
- 01:23perspective can really inform this work.
- 01:25I think that building these types
- 01:27of connections is so important,
- 01:29because, really.
- 01:30This work needs to be transdisciplinary to
- 01:33be successful. Thank you.
- 01:35So Doctor Linden Ebling from NCI.
- 01:37You had the vision back in 2004 to
- 01:40bring together a transdisciplinary
- 01:41group of scientists focused
- 01:43on energy bouncing cancer.
- 01:46So your vision then versus your vision.
- 01:48Now as it stayed the same
- 01:51as it changed to me.
- 01:53Your thoughts? Well I
- 01:55would say the application of what
- 01:57tricks started within words grown has
- 02:00exceeded all original expectations.
- 02:02In that it's continued to strengthen
- 02:04and grow a research community,
- 02:07an consortium for individuals to think
- 02:10beyond their original disciplinary box.
- 02:12It's also enabled the cyantific
- 02:14directions to become much more integrated,
- 02:18and translation ulto areas of
- 02:20science that were not originally
- 02:22grasped into the concept as before,
- 02:25and it's helped maintain a very
- 02:28competitive and dynamic edge to the
- 02:31focus of the research and science.
- 02:34Great thank you. So,
- 02:36Doctor Henry Thompson from Colorado
- 02:38State University you've been a part
- 02:40of this trek workshop for the last
- 02:43two years as a basic scientist doing
- 02:46energy balance in Cancer Research.
- 02:48So what do you think are the benefits of
- 02:51this workshop to other basic preclinical
- 02:54scientists? Wow is what I was saying.
- 02:56It is been a great opportunity to
- 02:59build community, build a vocabulary
- 03:02that we can all understand and.
- 03:05Test ideas out.
- 03:06I always look for the opportunities for
- 03:09epiphanies and this has been perfect
- 03:11environment through just random conversation.
- 03:14Suddenly you have an insight and
- 03:17then you share that with a lot of
- 03:20young people who are enthusiastic.
- 03:22Anet embellishes the insight and gives
- 03:24you critical feedback that you wouldn't
- 03:27necessarily get from experience people,
- 03:29so this is this is it just
- 03:32generates excitement and recharges
- 03:34the battery not just for the.
- 03:37Young felt younger fellows
- 03:38for experienced people,
- 03:40so it is truly what science should be about.
- 03:43And I say that I don't know of any
- 03:47other event forum in which I've
- 03:50seen this happen consistently.
- 03:52It's a great experience do it.
- 03:54Thank you.
