TREC Course Faculty

We have assembled a highly accomplished group of TREC Faculty with expertise in energetics and cancer across basic, clinical, and population sciences, all of whom have strong enthusiasm for this unique training program. Faculty bring substantial research and mentoring experience and deliver lectures, tutorials, small-group and one-on-one sessions, and serve as primary mentors to Fellows during and for one year following the workshop. TREC Fellow alumni also participate as peer mentors, strengthening networking and continuity across cohorts. Under Dr. Irwin’s leadership, Faculty engage in advance planning through a virtual Faculty meeting, finalize syllabi and session formats, and maintain ongoing coordination throughout the year. Faculty attend the 5-day workshop for two days each year, participate in panel discussions linked to pre-recorded content, and engage fully in mentoring and workshop activities, with approximately 4–8 Faculty on site daily at the workshop. All Faculty complete structured mentor training through the NIH-supported National Research Mentoring Network, with continued development throughout the funding period. Collectively, the TREC Faculty represent broad disciplinary expertise, including oncology, cancer biology, epidemiology, nutrition, exercise science, psychology, biostatistics, and implementation science, and diverse methodological approaches spanning animal models, cohort studies, and randomized clinical trials.
