Fall is upon us and that means students are back to school! We welcome the arrival of the new Yale School of Medicine Class of 2027 who will also be the first matriculated class of students to each be assigned a longitudinal coach! Eighteen coaches were selected from over 50 applications to follow a small cohort of students over their medical school career and help them develop self-reflection and individualized learning goals in support of excelling in the medical school curriculum. There are three faculty in Internal Medicine and one in Medicine-Pediatrics among this diverse first cohort of 18 coaches. Another 18 coaches will be recruited next spring. Read all the Longitudinal Coaching Program on the website.

Our residents and interns are fairly new to their roles as well. Please take a moment to set two - three goals for the time that you have together, and review the relevant end of rotation evaluation with them at the start of the rotation so you both have a shared understanding of expectations and evaluation domains. Lastly, aim to fill out the end of rotation evaluation with them on your last day of service so that they are equipped with an action plan for the next rotation. Sending it late robs the trainee of the opportunity to have a dialog with you to better understand the relevance of feedback, makes it impossible to implement any action plan in a timely manner, and makes it harder for you to recall specifics which renders it less useful.

If you need a brush up on setting goals, learning climate, feedback and more, we are excited to announce that the previous educator series, IMEDucator, has now been expanded to all teaching faculty across Yale School of Medicine! The expanded series, YES! (Yale Medical Educator Series) will now include classroom-based teaching topics as well as clinical teaching skills, and some professional development topics such as abstract and manuscript writing. Keep an eye out for YES! signup from the Yale Center for Teaching and Learning with easy registration which will add to your calendar.
