EMD Seminar Series: Yap Boum - "A New Era for Public Health Emergencies in Africa"
“A New Era for Public Health Emergencies in Africa”
Africa is entering a new era in public health emergencies, transitioning from reactive responses to integrated systems of preparedness and response. Building on lessons from COVID-19, Ebola, mpox, and cholera, the continent is advancing the Africa Health Security and Sovereignty (AHSS) agenda, with the Incident Management Support Team (IMST) as a cornerstone for coordinated continental action and its progressive integration with preparedness platforms, including cholera. This transformation is guided by a clear principle—Africa leads, and multilaterals support—and is strengthening surveillance, laboratory systems, emergency operations, and locally driven research, positioning African institutions at the center of a more resilient, self-reliant, and globally connected public health architecture.
YSPH values inclusion and access for all participants
