  • Furnituremakers Explore Chinese Traditions

    This exhibition aims to bring contemporary studio furnituremakers from North America and China together and to study the rich collections of historic Chinese furniture in the Boston area and then charge the contemporary makers to create new work inspired by the historic examples. The show, at the Peabody Essex Museum in 2006, traveled to the Museum of Art & Design in New York during 2007, and later the Ft. Lauderdale Museum of Art. URL: http://www.pem.org/sites/ibc/
  • Globalization of Modern Craft
    China; India (2006-2007)
    Professor Cooke teaches a graduate seminar entitled "The Globalization of Modern Craft," based on his experiences meeting craft leaders in China and India during sabbatical travels in 2006-7. These travels have also led to a paper entitled "Why Material Culture Matters in the 21st Century: Musings from India;" this work was the James C. Curtis Commencement Lecture for the Winterthur Program in American Culture.
