Doris Iarovici ’87, MD ’92, a distinguished alumna of Yale College and Yale University School of Medicine, has published her latest book, Coping on Campus: Mental Health and the University Student, in December 2024.

Dr. Iarovici, who emigrated from Romania to New York City at the age of five, began her writing journey shortly thereafter. As a teenager, she published poetry and essays in Seventeen Magazine. Throughout her career, she has balanced her passions for writing and medicine, producing both fiction and non-fiction works.

Her professional accolades include writing fellowships from prestigious institutions such as the Djerassi Resident Artists' Program, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Hambidge Center, Vermont Studio Center, and the North Carolina Arts Council. Currently, she serves as a psychiatrist at Harvard University and resides in Boston.

In Coping on Campus, Dr. Iarovici addresses the pressing issue of declining mental health among college students, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and rapid technological advancements. Through case vignettes, she explores interventions for various psychiatric concerns, including substance abuse, relationship difficulties, eating disorders, sleep issues, and perfectionism. The book also provides guidance on emergency assessments, covering risk classification, hospitalization, and communication within the campus community.

This timely publication offers valuable insights and practical approaches to enhancing student mental health amidst contemporary challenges.
