October is breast cancer awareness month, and according to the American Cancer Society, Connecticut has the second highest rate of breast cancer in the nation. To support the cause in a colorful way, Yale School of Public Health will bring Pink Hair for Hope to New Haven on Oct. 11 to host a pink hair party.
The event is sponsored by the Dean’s Community Connections Committee, in conjunction with Salon Space of North Haven, and will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The pink hair party and information fair will be held in the lower level of 60 College St. For a donation of $10, women—as well as men—can have a lock of bright pink hair attached to their own.
“Hair extensions will be a fun way for people to show support for friends and loved ones who have battled breast cancer and get them thinking about their own breast health,” said Kelly Edwards, chair of the dean’s committee. “The information fair we’re holding in conjunction with the “Pink Hair” even will help educate women about how to prevent breast cancer.
