Two Yale Psychiatry faulty members are among 36 newly-elected members of the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering (CASE).

Megan Smith, DrPH, MPH, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, and Director of the Mental health Outreach for MotherS (MOMS) Partnership, as well as the Yale Child Study Center Parent and Family Development Program, and Nenad Sestan, MD, PhD, Harvey and Kate Cushing Professor of Neuroscience, and Professor of Comparative Medicine, of Genetics and of Psychiatry, were recently elected to CASE.

CASE elects its membership from the state’s leading experts in science, engineering, and technology. Smith and Sestan are among 13 Yale-affiliated members, including Nancy J. Brown, Dean of the Yale School of Medicine, and Ruth R. Montgomery, Professor of Medicine and Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs at the Yale School of Medicine.

The new members will be introduced at the academy’s 45th Annual Meeting and Dinner on May 26, at the University of Connecticut.

Election to CASE is on the basis of scientific and engineering distinction achieved through significant contributions in theory or applications, as demonstrated by original published books and papers, patents, the pioneering of new and developing fields and innovative products, outstanding leadership of nationally recognized technical teams, and external professional awards in recognition of scientific and engineering excellence.

CASE was chartered by the Connecticut General Assembly in 1976 to provide guidance on science and technology to Connecticut officials and residents, and to promote the application of science and technology to human welfare and economic well-being.
