Advanced Health Management Program (AHMP)

GHLI partners with the Foundation for Professional Development to offer the Advanced Health Management Program (AHMP). The program provides health professionals with the management skills necessary to run efficient, effective health care facilities, meet the needs of patients with HIV/AIDS amid the HIV treatment and prevention surge in South Africa. The certificate-level, executive program develops managerial competencies in areas such as strategic problem solving, financial management and resource mobilization, operations and project management, human resources management and development, marketing and community engagement, and monitoring and evaluation. Between sessions, program participants identify priority management challenges at their facilities and devise systematic solutions to address these problems, with measurable impact on quality of care. The year-long program offered in South Africa's nine provinces graduates more than 150 students per year. As one of the largest health leadership programs in the world, AHMP is being adapted for replication in neighboring Swaziland, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Clayton-Dedonder Fellowship for Research Leadership

GHLI also partners with the Aurum Institute and the University of Witwatersrand to offer the Clayton-Dedonder Fellowship for Research Leadership. To address the critical need for research leadership created by the HIV treatment and prevention surge in South Africa, we prepare mid-career scientists to serve as effective research mentors within a nurtured leadership network. African scientists emerge prepared to lead a more strategic HIV/TB research agenda, both individually and collectively, with new skills for effective leadership (strategic thinking, advocacy, and engagement) and mentorship of junior researchers. This 9-month program engage 15 fellows in each cohort.
