Senior Leadership Project

The Senior Leadership Program (SLP) was collaboratively designed and delivered by GHLI and Management Sciences for Health to improve leadership, management, and governance in low and middle-income countries. As part of the USAID Leadership, Management, and Governance Project, the SLP equips senior decision-makers with the skills and tools to address critical health problems with evidence-based strategies, effective management, and transparent governance.

The SLP was piloted with the University of Rwanda, which has since successfully adapted the curriculum into related programming. Following the success of this pilot program, five additional SLPs have been implemented – two in Ethiopia with regional health bureau and senior federal ministry officials, as well as three regional programs in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross. Regional programs with a focus on disability rights and physical rehabilitation services were implemented for Francophone Africa, East Africa, and Southeast Asia; these programs have engaged country teams from Ethiopia, Sudan, Tanzania, Zambia, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Vietnam, Burundi, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Madagascar, Niger and Togo.

Through our multi-country SLPs, senior decision-makers have the opportunity to learn from the experiences and perspectives of peer organizations and colleagues in other countries, develop new cross-country collaborations, and share practices and innovations that can be adapted in other countries.
