Registration is required. Click here to register.
This library training is for YSPH students who are interested in turning their thesis (or capstone) into a journal article. Others are also welcome! We'll cover topics including:
- Your questions about publishing — really, we will save time for questions. You can ask questions in advance here.
- The differences between a thesis and a journal article manuscript
- ICMJE guidelines and journals' author instructions
- Authorship: who should be an author, and what does the corresponding author do
- Open Access, Public Access Compliance, Article Processing Charges, Article Processing Charge Waivers, and Yale's Transformative Agreements
- Prior publication (aka "The Ingelfinger Rule") in the context of theses and dissertations, ProQuest, and EliScholar. Bonus: preprints
- Cover letter to the handling editor
- Copyright, author agreement, and CC licenses
- Choosing a journal based on audience, discoverability, prestige, and more
- Time frame for peer review and publication
Wow, that topic list has a lot of scholarly communication jargon! Well, that's why you should take this class. 🙂
Participants will be able to:
- Compare the advantages and disadvantages of different journals
- Make informed decisions about open access, licenses, and copyright
