 tlestop Tour" Abstract: In this talk\, I will give a whirlwind overview o
 f ideas and perspectives in the study of external validity. Topics will i
 nclude an introduction to target validity\; the thought experiment of a d
 oubly randomized trial\; a proposed schema encompassing both generalizabi
 lity and transportability\; a clarification of how inverse odds of sampli
 ng weights relate to transportability and generalizability\; an argument 
 from bounding about why external validity is of greater concern than inte
 rnal validity\; a potential outcomes approach to understanding when risk 
 differences\, or risk ratios\, might be expected to naively generalize\; 
 and thoughts on what the generalizability literature has to say (if anyth
 ing) about model cross-validation. Along the way\, expect poetry\, refere
 nces to everything from the Simpsons to Yale a cappella groups\, and at l
