DESCRIPTION:Focusing on Domestic and Intimate Partner Violence America’s g
un conversation typically centers on men’s experiences (perhaps unsurpris
ing\, since men account for 86% of all firearm deaths)\, but American wom
en are a crucial part of the conversation. 61% of women who died due to g
un violence were killed by a current or former intimate partner\, compare
d with just 6% of men. Among firearm homicide victims\, women are 10 time
s more likely than men to have been killed by an intimate partner. In ack
nowledgement of Domestic Violence Awareness Month\, our panelists will ex
plore this troubling pattern and what policy and systems we can implement
to reduce those numbers. In Women and Guns: A Complicated and Changing R
elationship \, we explore the unique ways that women interact with firear
ms (in both legal and illicit ways)\, the unique challenges they face wit
hin the legal system\, and what we know about their rates of firearm inju
ry. Panelists will include: Lynn Addington \, Distinguished Professor\, J
ustice\, Law\, Criminology & Security (American University) Ayesha Dholak
ia \, Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellow (Boston Children’s Hospital & H
arvard Medical School) Alice Ellyson \, Assistant Professor\, Department
of Pediatrics (University of Washington School of Medicine) Marianna Mitc
hem \, Senior Industry Advisor (Everytown) The panel will be moderated by
journal co-editor\, Kerri Raissian\, the Executive Director of the Yale
School of Public Health's Firearms Injury Prevention Initiative and Niska
 nen Senior Fellow.\n\nAdmission:\nFree\n\nDetails URL:\nhttps://medicine.
