DESCRIPTION:At YSPH\, we don't use typical letter grades\, but most of us 
 are still using traditional grading approaches for assessments in which t
 he final grade is a weighted average of all assessments in the course. AI
  substitution for student work\, and students’ perceived need for perfect
 ion at every milestone are challenges influenced by a course's approach t
 o grading. The Yale Committee on Trust in Higher Education recommended re
 storing meaning to grades in order to regain credibility. Responses to th
 is at other institutions have included capping the number of As and listi
 ng only pass/no credit for first-semester courses. Others have indicated 
 that\, in the absence of grades altogether\, the AI problem would be cons
 iderably attenuated. This one-hour interactive workshop explores practica
 l alternatives for grading\, with a focus on mastery-based grading and po
 rtfolio reflection\, that do not increase grading load and may better ser
 ve both faculty and students. No prior background in learning science or
