 \, staff writer at The New Yorker \, will be in conversation with Dr. Ran
 di Epstein\, Program for Humanities in Medicine’s writer-in-residence and
  the Writing for the Public track leader in the medical humanities concen
 tration.Their conversation will highlight how journalists sift through mi
 sinformation and conspiracy theories\, approaches to effective written co
 mmunication of complex scientific and medical topics to a lay audience\, 
 and good practices and ethical standards for interviewing patients for jo
 urnalistic purposes. Burkhard Bilger has been a staff writer at The New Y
 orker since 2001. His work has also appeared in The Atlantic \, Harper’s 
 \, The New York Times \, and numerous other publications\, and has been a
 nthologized 10 times in the Best American series. Bilger has taught writi
 ng at Yale University and New York University\, and received writing fell
 owships from MacDowell and the Cullman Center at New York Public Library.
  His first book\, Noodling for Flatheads \, was a finalist for the PEN/Ma
 rtha Albrand Award. His second book\, Fatherland \, was named one of the 
 Best Books of 2023 by The Washington Post \, Kirkus Reviews \, and The Ne
