DESCRIPTION:SPEAKER : Yong Chen\, PhD\, Professor of Biostatistics\, Depar
 tment of Biostatistics\, Epidemiology\, and Informatics\, University of P
ennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. TITLE : “MOSAiC: A Unified Frame
work for Lossless\, One-shot\, Federated Learning Algorithms” ABSTRACT: M
ulti-site studies are now central to biomedical research\, but inference
across sites remains challenging due to regulatory limits on sharing indi
 vidual-level data\, heterogeneous data distributions\, sparse events in s
mall centers\, and the logistical burden of multi-round communication. In
this talk\, I introduce MOSAiC (Multi-site One-Shot Aggregation of Compr
essed Risk Functions)\, a unified framework for modern distributed resear
ch networks. Notably\, MOSAiC reframes distributed learning as a mathemat
ical problem of compressing and aggregating risk functions\, leveraging r
ecent advances in tensor networks—state-of-the-art tools for high-dimensi
onal function approximation in scientific computing. Our MOSAiC enjoys fo
ur desirable properties that have never been achieved by any of the exist
ing federated algorithms (except linear regressions): one-shot communicat
ion\, lossless recovery of pooled-data estimates\, inclusiveness of all s
ites irrespective of size or event rarity\, and analytic submodel exploit
ability without re-querying partners. I will illustrate MOSAiC’s validity
and efficiency through applications in drug relabeling\, drug repurposin
g\, and post-market safety surveillance. The talk will highlight our fort
hcoming discussion paper in the Journal of the American Statistical Assoc
iation (Applications and Case Studies) (https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/f
ull/10.1080/01621459.2026.2698025 )\, along with several ongoing extensio
ns and applications. YSPH values inclusion and access for all participant
 s. If you have questions about accessibility or would like to request an
